Trade Fairs: IPM 2021 Postponed.

The IPM ESSEN, which was planned for January 26 to 29, 2021, has been cancelled.

Against the background of the increasingly dynamic situation and worldwide travel restrictions, Messe Essen have stated that there is currently not the planning security required for the serious preparation of the international trade fair participants. As much as the green industry has wished for IPM ESSEN as a communication platform, there is a great deal of uncertainty in view of the recent occurrence of infections in important markets such as the Benelux countries or France.

Nevertheless, Messe Essen is giving the industry a stage at the planned date of the fair and, together with its partner associations, is organizing a top-level meeting between decision-makers and politicians.

“The anticipation of the IPM ESSEN was great, especially after the past months of full renunciation by all those involved, the more difficult it was for us to decide to cancel the fair”, explains Oliver P. Kuhrt, Managing Director of Messe Essen. “However, it is our responsibility to enable our exhibitors to plan their participation in the fair seriously. Against the background that many of our customers come from abroad and are increasingly insecure due to the difficult travel conditions, however, this is not possible at present. We have therefore decided to cancel before the hot phase of stand planning begins”.

The next IPM ESSEN will take place at Messe Essen from January 25 to 28, 2022.

Trade Fairs: Horticultural Industry is Committed to IPM Essen.

“For the majority of the exhibitors, participation in IPM ESSEN as an indispensable communication and sales platform is a matter of course. We are currently experiencing not only in Essen that large fairs with international participation can once again be held successfully. The be-all and end-all is a functioning hygiene concept, and we have proven that”, says Oliver P. Kuhrt, Managing Director of Messe Essen.

“A fair is not a concert or a soccer match. The distances between the participants is greater, and they are also much more widely spread over time. That’s why we are expecting regional shifts due to travel restrictions, but assume that not much will change in the overall picture”, adds Sabina Großkreuz, Head of Marketing at Messe Essen.

Effective hygiene protection is not only lived practice in the event organization, but also one of the focal points of the IPM ESSEN 2021: “The IPM Discovery Center, in which we present innovative concepts for the point of sale every year, is dedicated to the topic of safe garden centers in 2021”, explains creative director Romeo Sommers. “From shop-fitting to visitor guidance and product presentation, we will be showing solutions for active infection protection, which today is a prerequisite for successfully addressing customers.”

IPM ESSEN is the world’s leading horticultural trade fair revolving around solutions and innovations in the green sector.

USA: National Hardware Show Cancels September 2020 Event. Virtual Show to be Announced Later in the Year.

Over the last few months, the National Hardware Show (NHS) has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on members of the global hardware and home improvement community.

Originally slated to open its doors in May, the Show was postponed to September. However, as the team continue to make the safety of everyone at NHS their top concern, and looking at the continued impact of COVID-19, NHS has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 event. Instead of an in-person experience, NHS plans to host a virtual trade show dedicated to providing education and support that recognises and addresses the direct and essential needs of the hardware industry, later in the year.

Germany: Spoga+Gafa Suspended for 2020 and Switches to New Date from 30 May to 1 June 2021

With the entire area almost fully booked by the spring of 2020, and thus outstanding registration levels for spoga+gafa, the trade fair situation increasingly came to reflect the current developments around Covid-19 and the economic situation.

For this reason, the spoga+gafa team reassessed the overall situation together with the Advisory Board and decided that it was best to respond to the cancellations and wishes of a large number of industry exhibitors and visitors by suspending spoga+gafa 2020.

At the request of the industry, Koelnmesse have also permanently moved the date for spoga+gafa to the first half of the year. In future, this means that the largest garden lifestyle trade fair in the world will be held at a time more convenient for orders by large segments of the industry. In 2021, spoga+gafa will take place from 30 May to 1 June.

Germany: Security Essen cancelled

The latest trade fair cancellation due to the corona crisis is Security Essen, which was planned for 22-25 September 2020. The trade fair for security technology will not return until 2022 (20-23 September). The customer expectations and the performance promise of the international trade fair for the security industry could not be fulfilled under the given circumstances, according to organisers Messe Essen. The decision to cancel was therefore made in close coordination with the partner associations.

Germany: Spoga+Gafa 2020 going ahead

As things stand, spoga+gafa 2020 is to take place as planned, from the 6-8 September 2020 in Cologne.
“We are continuing to work flat out on the preparations for the largest garden lifestyle trade fair in the world and in spite of the tense situation, we have so far been able to record an excellent number of applications compared to the previous year level. As such the garden industry is preparing for the times after the Corona crisis and for taking up business again,” according to the statement signed by the Vice President Trade Fair Management Catja Caspary and Stefan Lohrberg, Director Spoga+Gafa.
They also give the assurance that payments from exhibitors and visitors will be refunded if the trade fair has to be cancelled due to Corona virus “which currently doesn’t appear to be the case”. In addition, the trade fair will only take place “if it has the chance of being successful for all parties involved,” according to the trade fair management. “Hence if we are led to believe that although all exhibitors are participating, a relevant share of our visitors will not attend in September due to risks or bans, we will act in the interests of all partners and reassess the situation”.
