USA: National Hardware Show Cancels September 2020 Event. Virtual Show to be Announced Later in the Year.

Over the last few months, the National Hardware Show (NHS) has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on members of the global hardware and home improvement community.

Originally slated to open its doors in May, the Show was postponed to September. However, as the team continue to make the safety of everyone at NHS their top concern, and looking at the continued impact of COVID-19, NHS has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 event. Instead of an in-person experience, NHS plans to host a virtual trade show dedicated to providing education and support that recognises and addresses the direct and essential needs of the hardware industry, later in the year.

China: China International Hardware Show 2020 (CIHS 2020) Postponed

In view of the continuous spread of COVID-19 throughout the world and the latest epidemic prevention requirements in China and the Government of Shanghai, the China National Hardware Association and Koelnmesse have prudently decided to postpone the China International Hardware Show 2020 (CIHS 2020) from August 7 – 9, 2020 to October 8 – 10, 2021. The event will still be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC).

Co-hosted by the China National Hardware Association and Koelnmesse, CIHS has been held for 19 continuous editions and become the largest international professional hardware show in the Asia-Pacific region.

Germany: Spoga+Gafa Suspended for 2020 and Switches to New Date from 30 May to 1 June 2021

With the entire area almost fully booked by the spring of 2020, and thus outstanding registration levels for spoga+gafa, the trade fair situation increasingly came to reflect the current developments around Covid-19 and the economic situation.

For this reason, the spoga+gafa team reassessed the overall situation together with the Advisory Board and decided that it was best to respond to the cancellations and wishes of a large number of industry exhibitors and visitors by suspending spoga+gafa 2020.

At the request of the industry, Koelnmesse have also permanently moved the date for spoga+gafa to the first half of the year. In future, this means that the largest garden lifestyle trade fair in the world will be held at a time more convenient for orders by large segments of the industry. In 2021, spoga+gafa will take place from 30 May to 1 June.

Germany: Security Essen cancelled

The latest trade fair cancellation due to the corona crisis is Security Essen, which was planned for 22-25 September 2020. The trade fair for security technology will not return until 2022 (20-23 September). The customer expectations and the performance promise of the international trade fair for the security industry could not be fulfilled under the given circumstances, according to organisers Messe Essen. The decision to cancel was therefore made in close coordination with the partner associations.

Germany: Spoga+Gafa 2020 going ahead

As things stand, spoga+gafa 2020 is to take place as planned, from the 6-8 September 2020 in Cologne.
“We are continuing to work flat out on the preparations for the largest garden lifestyle trade fair in the world and in spite of the tense situation, we have so far been able to record an excellent number of applications compared to the previous year level. As such the garden industry is preparing for the times after the Corona crisis and for taking up business again,” according to the statement signed by the Vice President Trade Fair Management Catja Caspary and Stefan Lohrberg, Director Spoga+Gafa.
They also give the assurance that payments from exhibitors and visitors will be refunded if the trade fair has to be cancelled due to Corona virus “which currently doesn’t appear to be the case”. In addition, the trade fair will only take place “if it has the chance of being successful for all parties involved,” according to the trade fair management. “Hence if we are led to believe that although all exhibitors are participating, a relevant share of our visitors will not attend in September due to risks or bans, we will act in the interests of all partners and reassess the situation”.

Germany: Tendence 2020 cancelled

In response to the corona crisis, Messe Frankfurt has cancelled Tendence 2020. “We fought to be able to hold Tendence here in Frankfurt at the end of June, despite the currently very tense circumstances. The situation, which has now become even more acute, unfortunately leaves us with no choice but to cancel the event. We look forward to welcoming the industry back to Frankfurt in 2021,” says Stephan Kurzawski, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt Exhibition. As a “necessary consequence” of the Tendence cancellation and to support the industry, Messe Frankfurt is offering Nordstil in Hamburg (25-27 July 2020) for the first time as a platform for the spring and summer 2021 collections. Due to the current situation, Nordstil will provide its own area especially for the Tendence product segment “Sunshine State” – large volume suppliers with new ranges for spring / summer 2021 (formerly Hall 11.0). This means that all buyers who wanted to place their pre-orders for the coming spring and summer 2021 at Tendence can now do so in Hamburg a few weeks later.
