Luxembourg: Death of Lucien Hardt

Words from John W Herbert: General Secretary of EDRA-GHIN

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing away of Lucien Hardt, CEO and Co-Founder of EDIN, who died in Luxembourg after a short illness on the 1st of July 2019, aged only 60 years.

EDIN became a member of EDRA in 2018 and in this short period I met Lucien several times and was most impressed with his enthusiasm and passion for the Building Materials Industry.  Lucien was for many years the Managing Director of Euro-Mat and significantly contributed to its positive development

Following differences at Euro-Mat, Lucien left the company in 2015 and in 2016 co-founded EDIN, the European Building Materials Distribution & Industry Network.  in such a short time, EDIN has become a significant association with 33 members from all over Europe, totalling €23 bn in group distribution turnover.

In Dublin, on the eve of the Global DIY Summit, 6-7 June 2019, Lucien, along with his son Philippe and Simo Manner, organised the very first Build Forum to which Lucien gave the welcome speech. Lucien had huge ambitions for the Build Forum for the future.

The success of Lucien Hardt was due to his dedicated work and vision of a collective Europe.  Personally speaking, Lucien Hardt  was one of the nicest people I have met in our industry and we shall miss his good humour and tireless energy.

John W. Herbert (General Secretary EDRA/GHIN)
