Hornbach: New hardware store opened in Paderborn

Hornbach's EUR 42 million flagship in Paderborn has been accessible to customers since today. On a sales area of around 18,600 square meters, the Bornheim-based DIY store group shows everything it currently has to offer in terms of product range and concept.

"It was our clear goal to offer the people here in Paderborn all the ranges, specialist departments and services that Hornbach has developed over the past few years and for which there was unfortunately no longer enough space at the old location. That's why we decided to build a new building and have expanded considerably. The new store is, so to speak, 'state of the art'. It corresponds to the latest status of our range and location development and stands for a maximum of inspiration, comfort and service," said Hornbach Purchasing Director Susanne Jäger yesterday at a press conference on site.

With around 18,600 square meters of retail space, the new building is the largest hardware store of the Palatinate group in North Rhine-Westphalia. The total investment is around 42 million euros. Of the 122 employees, 71 were previously employed at the previous Hornbach location on Heisenbergstrasse, which was closed yesterday evening. After the lease expires at the end of June, Hornbach will hand over the property to the owner.

The garden center (around 5,500 square meters) in the new hardware store is significantly larger than before. In addition to plants, there is a workshop where employees put new machines into operation and inspect, service and repair older equipment. Also in the store: aquatics department, picture and frame gallery, "color competence center", lighting studio, large-scale presentation of floor coverings and the "Bathroom House" planning service.

Pick-up station and e-charging points outside

Outside the new hardware store, Hornbach has installed a 24-hour pick-up station for goods ordered online. Customers can also use charging stations for electric vehicles in the parking lot. The store on Wilfried-Finke-Allee is the first Hornbach store in Germany to be operated largely energy-neutrally with the help of a heat pump and 2,000 solar collectors on the roof.
